BatChmod — short for “Batch Change Mode” — lets you change the permissions on your files and folders. Finder’s “Get Info” also lets you do this, but BatChmod gives you more fine-grained control. (By the way, don’t change permissions on files if you don’t know what you’re doing.)

BatChmod’s most universally useful feature is “Force Empty Trash”, for those pesky times when you can’t empty your trash the normal way.

Pasteboard Recorder

August 12, 2010 – 8:26 am

Download

Pasteboard Recorder lets you keep in record the last 60 things on your Mac’s Pasteboard. This is especially useful when blogging. I find myself jumping between tabs to get different URL’s and quotes but with Pasteboard Recorder, you can copy them all and then get to them using shortcut keys. Also, the content to record is not limited to text snippets.

The good developer seems to be Japanese so his page is a bit choppy on English, but the app is great.

Parsley Is Atomically Deicious

August 10, 2010 – 9:24 am

Download

When I got my first iPod with video, the first thing I did was convert all episodes of The Office to be iPod ready. For that I used iSquint. It worked great, but when I got it on the iPod, I was bummed to see that I couldn’t add all the right tags to it like season, episode, year, description, and mark it as a “TV Show.” That bothered me. I’m a bit of an organize freak.

This is why I was so glad to see Parsley Is Atomically Delicious. PAD let’s you add all these tags, and it gives you a really nice interface to do so. It will also let you work with music videos and movies.

Finally, I can rest in organizational bliss. (And they get bonus points because the icon makes me think of El Farolito’s in San Francisco…the best taqueria on the planet.)

UnRarX

August 9, 2010 – 9:36 am

Download

UnRarX is a great tool to have around. As the name would suggest, it will help you to expand rar archives.

I think that most Mac owners use Stuffit Expander for rar archives, but UnRarX has helped me when Stuffit Expander couldn’t do the job.

Next time you you can’t open up a rar archive, remember this post and come on back for UnRarX. (Or download it now and save yourself the trouble.)
